01:54 am - Soon Seng's Pre-Birthday Events...
Its pretty sad when you reach the point in life where, during your birthday, you don't really feel like doing anything except going back to sleep, because you're about to keel over from exhaustion. Sigh, the trials of working life.
Anyhow, my birthday eve was delightful, and it started with the sudden dinner invitation by Shino (who didn't really know that it was my birthday), but who, out of the blue, thought of catching up. Together with Su-Lyn, we had dinner at Tappers, where we spoke about everything from bikinis to porcelain noses. The two ladies were kind enough to get a cake from Secret Recipe when the one they ordered came to our table with mold, and game enough to sing Happy Birthday with some hand-clapping. Many thanks to the both of you! (if you're reading this...)

After the dinner, I adjourned to Pelita Nasi Kandar in SS15, where the high school gang was already gathering. Karen brought the cake, and it was a walk down memory lane again, as we spoke about the old days, and who had done what. Jackie and I share almost the same birthday, and it was apt that we blow the candles out on the cake together. It was also a very informative gathering, where I learned about how to turn into a midget, the miracles of camera angles, and the wonders of the Trapdoor Spider. Karen astounded us all with her in-depth knowledge and passion for Trapdoor spiders, and uncovered my eyes to their world (in Frasers Hill). With many hilarious moments, and reminiscing, it was fun right from the get-go, up till the point when I went home to sleep.

To Shino, Su-Lyn, Karen, Julie, Jackie, Mei Ling, Jolvin, Wen Ching, and Mei Huei, thank you!
Its worth turning a year older just to have you all there. =)
To all the calls, sms', Facebook messages, gifts, and closer-to-the-grave warnings, I wish you all many thanks.

10:34 pm - Of Blurred Photos and Neslo Panas...
"Eh, you fatter la."
The understatement of the year was the first sentence Julie uttered upon coming out of her house, where I had picked her up from, right after swinging by Karen's place to bring her in tow.
It was the first time I had seen either one of them in years (ok,not years, but still a pretty long time) and somehow, nothing brings back memories of high school more than seeing your high-schoolmates (indeed). Jackie, who was supposed to be in Subang, was, strangely enough, in Kuantan, and was unable to join the impromptu meetup. We then decided to head over to mamak lorong SS15 (otherwise known as J.S.) for a drink, and before long, we were sipping on our Neslo and Teh O' panas' (with the exception of Julie, who couldn't decide whether she wanted a drink until we left the place). Karen had just got back from Auckland, and were entertaining us with tales of how she passed her time over there (which got me rather worried).
Of late, my conversations during meetups with friends tended to centre around serious topics like housing loans, the economy on the brink of collapse, petrol price hikes, and how throwing shoes can get you in real trouble, all of which only served as a rather wistful reminder that we were all growing up. Gone are the days when we would speculate about what powers Peter Petrelli would get in the next episode of Heroes, or how Michael Scofield would attempt to break out of prison in the following season.
When our little meetup didn't delve into anything more serious than cow-staring activities, I deeply relieved. Catching up about old friends somehow feels a lot less worrying than talking about when the economy is going to collapse, and I'm really thankful for occasions like these.
After having finished our drinks, I then dropped both the ladies home, and headed back to sleep...
...but not before taking the Compulsory Group Photo.

Julie, tired as she was, was still game for a photo.
It was great catching up with you both! =)
Looking forward to the next gathering.
